DAY FIVE Started and finished my last 'teaching' day with the cute Kinders and Mrs Griffioen learning about monsters such as the 'Gruffalo' and helping them learn how to use scissors in the correct way. After they all finished their work, Mrs Griffioen asked me to read them a story, so I got to sit in the teacher chair and have all the Kinders sitting at my feet while I read them a story:) During recess, all the Preps showed me their costumes for their 100-day party. They have had 100 days at school and had to dress up as though they were 100 years old! They all make cute looking old people, as you can see from the photos:) At 12:00, Sam and I finished our work experience with John Calvin School Launceston and were taken up to Ben Lomond to see snow! I have never seen Sam so excited before as he ran around yelling to the world that he was from WA and it was his first time seeing snow. We went tobogganing down a bumpy slope, and I won all the races. (Only because my opp ...

DAY FOUR This morning we walked to the bus in 0 degrees and we all froze. I'm not kidding, even the Tasmanians were complaining about how cold it was, that means it was super cold! I went with Mrs King and helped the grade 1&2 class with their math and various other activities including cutting out paper and making them into cubes. Before recess time, Mrs King read a bible story to us, one about Balaam and Balaak and the talking donkey. She emphasised that everything is in Gods control, and I found it very beneficial, especially at this time. After recess, I went with the year 9&10 class to the church where they practised their play production, and I thought that because I am in a play production, it would be beneficial to watch them. If you're in Tassie at the time they perform I definitely recommend checking it out, it was super funny, especially when they improvised. (Which was a lot:) After lunch, I stayed with the year 9&10s in their scien ...

DAY THREE Started today with the small PrePrimary class and Mrs Heys, while Sam was next door with the Kinders. We did lots of singing and continued their work through the alphabet getting to the letter T, I helped them write their letters with finger spaces and putting them on the right lines. We then sat on the mat and passed the fruit bowl around, the children all commenting on their favourite fruit, before going out to recess where I had to push them on the swing and run around in Imogen and Georgia's imaginary train, stopping to pick up Sam on the way. After recess, two of the children did 'show and tell,' one showing her little ponies and the other showing us his new atlas book, which was called 'Childs big Atlas,' but he reckoned it should've just been called an Atlas. They then went on to learn fractions, using cubes to half the numbers that Mrs Heys gave to them and then did some worksheets. After lunch, I went to the grade 3&4 class right in time for the par ...

DAY TWO Started the day with a chilly 2 degrees! we had to wash the windows with water but by the time we got in the car it had frozen over again! I went back to the grade 5 and 6 for the morning, where they did a quiz on the previous bible story that they heard. Mr Plug used an interesting way of doing a test, that is, by using individual white boards and having the students write/draw their answer, and then holding it up for him to see. It was a great way of including the whole class and making them all answer the question. During recess, some of the year 5 boys convinced me and Sam to play basketball knockouts, but because we are 'teachers' we don't get out! After recess, I went into Mrs Veltcamps grade 1 & 2 class and helped the more advanced students with their spelling, and then helped some grade 1's write stories about cows and ducks, one including a rainbow duck and brown cow being put in Hogwarts!  During lunch recess, Sam took his camera out and ...

DAY ONE We started the day off by having a whole school assembly, where Mr Coote introduced Sam and myself to the whooooole school! (which wasn't very big so it wasn't too bad ;) He introduced the theme of 'In Christ Alone' and we sang the first verse of the John Calvin School Song. Afterwards, we were taken on a tour around the school and then went into our allocated classes. I was taken into Miss Plug's (my previous art teacher in year 10) class with the grade 3's and 4's, and after morning recess we sat in a circle and Miss Plug talked about the use of stories and how the Aboriginals had stories about their 'dream-time' and compared it to our 'story,' that is, the Bible. After lunch, I proceeded to the grade 5 and 6 class with Mr Plug (also my teacher in year 8) where I helped them complete their sound waves and spelling and then got picked on during a short game of dodge. At the end of the day, they had a music lesson with Mrs King, where we watched different YouTube video ...
