Under the Primary Schools in the 21st Century project (P21), RJCS has been granted a new Library and Multi-Purpose Hall.
All building licenses have been submitted and council questions have been answered as required.
A check was made at the campus to see that the school complies with current fire regulations for a MPH. Currently there is enough pressure at this stage. An application will need to be completed for a connection to a fire hydrant.
People have been coming in during the summer break to begin clearing the trees for the site of the new MPH.
Originally FRSA had people come in from the Dept of Wildlife and Conservation to check whether or not there was any wildlife living amongst the trees, before permission could be granted to clear the site.
See the progress being made at RJCS on the site.
We received a call this week confirming that building approval has been granted!! We're just waiting on the official paperwork and once that has been received, building will commence at RJCS.
Currently, the building license for the RJCS Sports Hall is still pending. We hope to receive the final approval shortly.
We've received 3D images of the future RJCS MPH, which gives us a good impression of how the completed Hall will look.
Last week the Building C'tee (BC) met together and discussed the Library and MPH projects from each campus.
At the moment the RJCS MPH project is at a bit of a stand still. The sand pad has been completed, but no further progress can be made until a decision has been made on whether or not a retaining wall will be built between the oval and the building.
The retaining wall is a large cost and isn't covered by the Government funding. Therefore donations in time, labour, materials or monetary value need to be collected from the community or a more cost effective option will need to be taken.
The BC members are now collating more quotes and prices for the wall and will compare them. A decision will be made soon regarding which option will be taken so that the builders can start working on the construction.
Finally after difficulties with the budget and funding, work on the retaining wall (aka The Great Wall of Rockingham) for the RJCS MPH has started. See below some photos of the large drop from the oval to the level of where the wall starts. The retaining wall will take pressure from the oval off of the MPH structure, which will be built next to the wall.
With the concrete pad down, the work is being done so that the panels for the walls can be set up. See the udpated photos...
The retaining wall is finished and now it's time to go full steam ahead with the work on the new MPH. The concerete slab will be done later this week and next week the panels will go up so that the concrete can be poured.

The retaining wall in Rockingham is going up fast.... see the updated pictures below
It's expected that the wall will be finished before the July school holidays start.
